Building Your Website

Once you have decided to get a website there are some things that can help you prepare for it.

Questions to think about:

  • What is your main objective for having a website?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • What 'image' do you want to portray? (e.g. fun, technical, formal)
  • What is the most important information you want your viewers to see?

Things you can do:

Gather together as much of the information as you can that you want on your site, to help you with this look at your recent publications and advertisements, product descriptions, you may even have pictures or quotes on your walls that you could use. Have a look at other websites, this may give you an idea of how you would like represent your business or organisation.


Maintaining Your Website

Once your website is established there are some things you can do to keep your website 'alive'.

Some suggestions are:

  • Update information on your site as regularly as possible.
  • Know your target audience and appeal to them visually.
  • Offer 'specials' to your web viewers.
  • Offer your printed material on-line.
  • Advertise sections of your website within your site, especially if they are new.
  • Create a feedback form, have a page showing recent submitted comments.

All of these things and more can help keep interest in revisiting your website.
